At home in Europe, rooted in the Euregio
Since its foundation, Gronau Comprehensive School has not only felt a connection to the European idea of peaceful coexistence, but has also firmly anchored it in its school program. As a school with an international student body and located in the Euregio, we offer our students the opportunity to broaden their own horizons through encounters with representatives of other cultures.
Gronau Comprehensive School has been an officially certified Euregio school since 2020. In numerous school and extracurricular activities, our pupils experience aspects of the everyday culture of our Dutch neighbors at first hand, be it through a visit to Sinterklaas, a city rally in Enschede or the annual exchange with our partner school Basisschool De Troubadour from Glanerbrug. Excursions in Years 10 and 13 to the Westerbork memorial and to the synagogues in Winterswijk and Enschede raise our pupils' awareness of the importance of commitment to a democratic, united and peaceful Europe. Participation in competitions on Europe, school projects on the official Europe Day and the regular European trip to Belgium, which includes a visit to the EU institutions in Brussels, are a clear commitment of our school community to Europe. We are therefore all the more pleased that, since the start of the 2023/2024 school year, we have been able to gain another partner school, the Belgian school Spes Nostra from Kuurne, to accompany us on our European journey!
