The night of November 9-10, 1938 is one of the darkest moments in German history: more than 1,000 synagogues and countless businesses belonging to Jewish Germans were attacked and destroyed. In preparation for this anniversary, the pupils in class 10e cleaned the stumbling stones of some Jewish Gronau residents. This made it possible to restore the legibility and shine of the stones on the occasion of Remembrance Day.
Every year on November 9, there is a commemorative event in Gronau, in which students from class 10c will participate this year.
The "Stumbling Stones" project was launched in 1992 by the artist Gunter Demnig. He wanted to give the Nazi victims, who were nothing more than a number in the concentration camps, their names back.
