Trial level - General information
The task of the probationary stage is to manage the transition from elementary school. On the one hand, this transition should be as seamless as possible, and on the other hand, it should introduce the new students to the working methods of the Gymnasium.
The measures that the Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium Gronau has been offering for years to solve this task can be seen to some extent in the following explanations.
- The nine-year Gymnasium (G9) will once again become the norm at public high schools in the 2019/20 school year. The second foreign language will once again begin in grade 7, and at the end of grade 10 (Sek I), the Mittlere Reife can be earned.
- The probationary stage includes grades 5 and 6, which form a single unit; there is no transfer between grades 5 and 6.
- The probationary stage is a time of orientation to check the chosen school form. At the end of grade 6, promotion to grade 7 opens the way to the intermediate level.
- If a student is not promoted at the end of grade 6, the probationary grade conference will discuss the student's further school career. The repetition of grade 6 should only be recommended if successful learning at the Gymnasium can be assumed for the future. If the trial stage conference comes to the conclusion that the student can be better supported at another type of school, the conference recommends or decides on a change of school type. If a decision is made, the student must leave the school at the end of grade 6.
- The development in the probationary stage is accompanied with special care. The class teachers maintain close contact with the parents.
