Farewells
Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to our school social worker Christiane Liebing as she has found a school closer to home. We wish her a good start at her new school!
We also had to say goodbye to our cleaner Marie-Luise Heßling. She went into well-deserved retirement. We wish her all the best for the future and, above all, good health.

Overbergler donate Christmas parcels for the Gronau food banks
Advent is also a special time at the Bernhard-Overberg-Schule, during which the entire school community tries to pause and create space for special moments. The school morning begins in all classes during these weeks with a small Advent celebration, where people sing, tell stories and read aloud. The school is decorated for Christmas and the children rehearse diligently for the performances on the last day of school. It has now become a tradition that all Overberglers also want to make Gronau and Eperan families happy during these weeks who are currently not doing so well. The children, parents and teachers donated lots of Christmas parcels containing great surprises. These parcels have now been collected by the managing director of the Gronau food banks, Mr. Reiner Liedtke, and the first chairman, Mr. Manfred Lenz, who will hand them over to the families in the coming weeks. The elementary school's student parliament accepted their thanks on behalf of the entire elementary school and helped to load the many parcels.
Tractor lights at the Overberg School
After the light drive at the weekend, some of the light tractors came to our schoolyard this Monday and lit up the dark morning.
Toboggan singing in the Agatha Church
Despite the weather, we walked to Agatha Church today with the whole school community and sang Christmas carols together with lots of other children.
Turkey cheeks sweeten the school morning
The entire school community at Bernhard-Overberg-Schule was delighted with a surprise that the school's support association had commissioned from St. Nicholas. On St. Nicholas morning, the children of the school parliament found four large boxes full of fragrant mare's cheeks, which they then distributed to the children and adults together with the chairpersons of the school's support association, Tobias Bürger and Rita Meyer. Well fortified, all the children from the school then went to the Agatha Church in Epe for the big toboggan sing.
Craft day at the Overbergschule

Dental health campaign week
In the week from 18-22.11.2024, our school once again took part in the dental health campaign. As part of the subject lessons, all classes dealt extensively with the topic of "dental health". In addition to the KAI brushing method, everyone learned a lot about teeth and the functions of individual teeth. Many things could be tried out practically at all the stations. The fourth-graders were even allowed to make their own toothpaste and take it home with them.
Sponsored run on 4.10.2024
Today, all the children at the school were dressed for sport as they took part in this year's sponsored run. Classes 1 and 2 were highly motivated at the start, followed later by classes 3 and 4, and ran many laps around the school in the beautiful weather. To ensure that all the children had enough to drink, there was a drinks station at the school and at the halfway point.
Play "My body belongs to me"
Building on the play "Nein-Tonne", the theater pedagogical workshop came back to our class. Small scenes were used to express feelings of yes and no. "What can I do as a child if someone crosses my physical boundaries?" and "How do I defend myself against sexual violence?" were two important questions that were answered. It became clear that in cases of sexual violence, the perpetrator is always to blame.
The children should be empowered to prevent dangerous situations and learn to get help when they need it. The children were given three questions to answer:
- Do I have a yes or a no feeling?
- Does anyone know where I am?
- Can I get help if I need it?
Despite the difficult topic, the children were eager to participate thanks to the great actors, the catchy song "My body..." and the age-appropriate play scenes.
No garbage can
On 1.10.2024, the Theaterpädagogische Werkstatt from Osnabrück was back at our school. For the first two years, there was the "No ton". Using short play sequences, the children learned more about the difference between yes and no feelings.
Drumming magic as a guest at the Bernhard Overberg School
"Children to the drums" - this was the motto of an action day at the Bernhard Overberg School, which was financed by the school's support association.
After a morning full of rhythms, dances and African sounds, all parents and grandparents were invited to a great hands-on concert. All the children and adults went on a musical fantasy journey to the magical drum land of "Tamborena", where the young musicians met lions, elephants and many other wild animals. All members of the audience were also encouraged to dance, drum and join in. This magical drumming day will remain in everyone's memory.
The Borken district sees yellow
As part of the "The Borken district sees yellow" campaign, some fourth graders handed out yellow thumbs before the start of school to parents who brought their children to school. Most parents behaved correctly and received a "thumbs up".
School enrollment ceremony for the new first graders
All the children and teachers of our school welcomed our new first graders today in bright sunshine with a trellis. Mrs. Schmeing then welcomed all first graders and their parents at the main staircase. Classes 3a, 3b and 3c recited an ABC poem and sang "You belong to us". After a short prayer, all the children went to their classes and experienced their first lesson.
